Getting Started up Seriously

You’ve decided to start playing poker online seriously. You have 1000 dollars as your bankroll. What do you do first? No really, ponder this question for a minute. I’ll bet that there are some of you out there who would have no idea where to start so I’m here to clear that up today. Now I’m not saying that 1k is going to make you’re a professional poker player by any stretch of the imagination. What I am saying though, is that with proper bankroll management and the right steps, you can turn it into some serious supplemental income for enjoyment, or you can work on building that roll into something to play at the higher stakes and start making more substantial money. So first things first. Get yourself a stat tracking program. The top two choices are Hold ‘Em Manager or Poker Tracker 3. Both have trial periods, so you can try them both and see which one suits your style better. One key thing to consider is whether or not your site of choice is supported. Some sites don’t support one but do support the other. Next, get yourself on over to deucescracked.com and get a subscription to their video section. You’ll learn more than you can handle to take in from the videos than you will by just reading about the strategy. But hey, you’re already doing something right by reading about poker. You have to remember, in order for this to work for you, you’ll have to be a constant learner of the game. After you have all that under your belt and you’ve studied the game for a while, you’ll be ready to hit the felt for your first few serious sessions. What you’ll want to do is begin at the 10NL level. While you’re properly rolled to be playing at 50 NL (20 buy-ins) at minimum buy-in requirements, chances are your skills won’t be quite up to par at this point. Log about 20k hands at 10NL and see where your winnings are headed. Are you consistently beating this game? If you answer yes, move on to 25NL. And just an insider tip, if you’re playing on a smaller site, you can go ahead and jump right into 25 NL, since the play at some of the smaller sites at that level is very similar to the 10 NL at the bigger sites. From there, the only decision you have to make is whether or not you’re going to pursue higher levels of success, or whether you’re just going to keep beating the pants off of your current level and deciding what to do with the money you’ve won.
