Glancing at any modern metropolis and you will find a gang of cranes putting up skyscrapers, amongst the tall buildings already developed. The important factor in the development of such buildings is steel. Steel structures are the mainstay of every city.
Before a building can be developed, it must be designed. And this is where steel structure detailing comes into play. Structural detailing design is critical to the safety of everybody involved – those working on the construction site, and those eventually living in the building. A great amount of designing is mandatory in order to fulfill safety regulations while matching all the stipulations the architect and client have prescribed.
A steel detail designer is required to know about pressure and force – allowing the building to yield to outside pressures, and when to resist such pressures, to maximise the unity of the construction. A structure also has to resist great weights, and so this must also be taken into account. From the weight of snow to the speed of wind, a steel structure detailer has to plan for all kinds of outside forces.
In these modern times, there’s a greater need for creative building designs, which means the detailer can often find himself working on tricky designs and attempt to transform them into a secure living space for thousands of people.
However, it’s not all bad for the detailer – software packages like AutoCad, Asteel and Tekla Steel have helped hurry up the operation of drafting and detailing buildings.
