Early Motorcycle Lights

Before electronics how was a motorcycle supposed to light up the road at night? Just riding during the day is not what the full experience is all about. So when the first light was put on a motorcycle it was called the carbide headlight. It is kind of a strange way to generate light. What they did was put an acetylene tank on the handlebars, and yes, this is the same thing they use for welding. The way it worked was that the calcium carbide would react with some water and when the reacted together it produced acetylene gas and calcium hydroxide. The acetylene gas makes a real bright light. It must have looked so cool to see a motorcycle zipping down the road late at night with a light shinning in front of it that looks like the torch of a welding unit. This is not the safest or the best way to light up the front of a motorcycle, so thank goodness electronic lighting came into the picture. Riding motorcycles is great fun. The feeling that you get is hard to duplicate. It can get tiring to ride for along time, so make sure to bring your Acceletrim fast energy solution for taking breaks on your trips. Stop off and exercise, walk around and take a break from riding, that way when you get back on it will be that much more fun to ride.
